Eight secrets to losing weight during Chinese New Year

How to lose weight during the Spring Festival?

1. A major transformation in food purchasing:

If you still have a bunch of unhealthy snacks at home, or if you're basically out of food, your first priority should be to buy some. Sounds great, right? When trying to lose weight, don't focus on starving yourself; instead, think about how to eat healthier. If you're going to be busy this week, buy enough food for the week. Don't plan to eat out; it's better to eat at home (or cook for yourself at work). The key is to control what you eat and what you don't. When shopping, buy plenty of vegetables—green, colorful, the more the better (negative-calorie foods are better, seasonal vegetables are better); fruits (apples and oranges are a must); and some starchy foods like sweet potatoes, yams, chestnuts, and potatoes. Why? Because you might have to say goodbye to rice and noodles for the next two weeks. Also buy some protein-rich foods, from eggs, chicken, and fish to various beans, bean products, soy milk, and milk. And also some tomato juice (low-sodium is better, but regular is fine if you can't find it). The seasonings include cumin, chili powder, bay leaf powder, cilantro, ginger powder, garlic, and so on. These are all foods that help burn fat and boost metabolism. There are no snacks, no bread, and no sugar.

2. Low-carbohydrate diet for 2 weeks:

Eating less carbohydrates will immediately reduce water retention and water weight, making you look slimmer within days. This isn't a long-term solution, so it's only for two weeks. The carbohydrates mentioned here refer to grains and sugars, excluding fresh fruits and vegetables and starchy foods (sweet potatoes, potatoes, beans, but starchy foods should still be consumed in moderation). Avoid dried fruit, as it's small in volume and extremely high in sugar. Avoid any soft drinks. If you can calculate your carbohydrate intake, don't exceed 50-60 grams per day (for the first two weeks). It's best to limit fruit to two servings, such as one medium-sized apple and one orange; you can eat more later, mainly due to their high sugar content. Pay attention to protein intake, as your body still needs energy and nutrients. Protein keeps you feeling full for longer, prevents muscle loss (muscle burns more calories than fat), and helps break down fat.

3. Drink plenty of water, 12-16 cups:

The usual recommendation to drink eight glasses of water a day should be increased when trying to lose weight. Drink as much as possible, avoid coffee, and opt for green tea or oolong tea. One glass of water is 240 ml, so plan ahead: drink a large glass of lemon water first thing in the morning, then another glass before breakfast, another before lunch, and a glass of diluted tomato juice 20 minutes before lunch (it's said to help speed up metabolism; I've tried it and found it effective, but it's probably more about the feeling of security). Drinking more water helps the body eliminate toxins and also helps "melt" fat. Milk and soy milk don't count as water, but if you're not drinking 12-16 glasses, they can make up the difference. You'll find yourself going to the bathroom more often, which is also a way to force yourself to get up and move around more, haha.
