How to lose weight during puberty

2026-02-09 11:07:45 · · #1

Adolescents are in a period of development, a time for physical and intellectual growth. Weight loss should not rely solely on dieting; scientific weight loss methods should be adopted to promote healthy growth.

The factors influencing obesity in adolescence are the same as in adults. A mildly obese teenager can gain weight rapidly and become obese within a few years. Many obese teenagers feel ashamed of their appearance and gradually become sedentary and reluctant to socialize. Parents often don't know how to help them.

There are not many suitable treatment options available for obese adolescents. There are few commercially available weight-loss programs specifically designed for them, and doctors have limited experience treating and using medication to help them lose weight. Schools offer some nutrition education and physical activities, but these measures are insufficient to control adolescent obesity. Surgery is sometimes necessary for those with severe obesity.

Behavioral changes can help control adolescent obesity. These include establishing a healthy, balanced diet and reducing calorie intake; radically changing eating habits; and increasing physical activity, such as walking, cycling, swimming, and dancing. Summer camps for obese teenagers often help them lose weight effectively, but the weight often returns if they don't continue. Counseling for obese teenagers can help them cope with their problems and restore their self-esteem.
